The European Green Deal is one of the priorities of the European Commission and strives to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent. Last year’s Fit for 55 package proved that Europe works seriously to implement this ambition. In addition, the challenges that our continent currently faces on security of energy supply and on affordability of energy prices are showing us that the only viable solutions for a decarbonized, secure and affordable future lies on sustainable and energy efficient solutions, and on a system that swifts even faster towards renewable technologies. This is reflected in the new legislation package on RePOWER EU that was presented by the European Commission on May 18th 2022.
Accelerating investments into sustainable energy and climate adaptation is crucial to ensure a climate-neutral Europe in the long-term and to prepare our cities and regions – as key drivers of the clean energy transition and carbon neutrality - for the current and future impacts of climate change.
The Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum - Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place (COMIF-EEFMP) is an annual conference that has been organised since 2018 by European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy, the Directorate-General for Climate Action and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), in collaboration with the Covenant of Mayors initiative. The success of the COMIF-EEFMP event – and its uniqueness – stems from presentation of successful initiatives to finance sustainable energy and climate adaptation, presented by practitioners to practitioners in a line-up of parallel break-out sessions. Networking is key to the event, allowing participants to deepen their learning experience and arrange for actionable follow up.
This year's edition will showcase successful projects funded under the Horizon 2020 programmes and in particular the H2020 Energy Efficiency sub programme and its successor, the LIFE Clean Energy Transition programme. It will also highlight projects funded under EIB ELENA, LIFE Climate programme and initiatives such as the Smart Cities Marketplace.
The last physical edition of the COMIF-EEFMP took place at the end of February 2020, attracting more than 600 participants – while the 2021 edition had been organised online due to the pandemic. This year the event will take place on October 18th in Brussels, as we are getting back to a physical format aiming to regain the momentum of the physical connection of our audience.
The 2022 edition will build on the successful previous editions and will include the presentation of projects in three parallel thematic strands:
• Cities and Regions driving change: innovative energy planning and climate change adaptation solutions
• Public sector mobilizing sustainable energy investments
• Emerging approaches to boosting energy efficiency investments in the residential and tertiary sectors
The one-day event will include an institutional opening and closing, project market place, networking facilities with institutional stands and much more.
